Family Day Out - Yorkshire Waters Fewston Reservoir Walk

This weekend we dugout out our new wellies, umbrellas and raincoats from under the stairs and headed out on one of the free fantastic Yorkshire Water reservoir walks.

The "family" -11 of us and two dogs jumped in the car and drove down to Fewston and Swinsty reservoir just off the A59 Harrogate / Skipton Road at Blubberhouses to undertake a  family friendly 3 mile.

  My Experience

The Fewston / Swinsty reservoir one of my favourite walks in Yorkshire - the car-park is well maintained and free. With loads of space to park-up, places to sit and loads of information to read the families can find all they need as soon as they arrive. Which is reassuring for those new to the walk!

This walk is fully paved and was wide enjoy to have two buggies side by side, suitable for wheel-chairs, runners and dog walkers alike! The trees, bushes and grass were also well maintained and cut back and never once caused us any problems. We came across many benches along the route enabling us to sit and enjoy the view as well as feed the newborns.

There ways plenty to see along the way and had an amble amount of wildlife popping up every now and then from ducks and swans through to birds and friendly dogs. The walk did offer something for the whole family and was easy enough for the little ones to safely and easily walk unaided.

About the Yorkshire Water

Yorkshire Water provides households with an essential service. As one of the country's largest landowners they work closely with numerous tenants to capture rainwater in the best way - the minute it falls from the sky, so they can deliver the highest quality water possible to your tap. It's a huge operation and often taken for granted when you turn on a tap or flush a toilet.

Rather than keeping these beautiful landscapes and structural features (such as reservoirs walls) under lock and key like some other companies, Yorkshire Water open up the sites for everyone to enjoy. Free entry, free parking and idyllic walking routes – which is great for all parents looking for free things to do in Yorkshire in all weather!

Yorkshire Water not only provide these fantastic walks they also make sure the precious resource of water is looked after from the catchment areas for drinking water to the safe removal of waste water - from source to sea! Allowing customers to experience and enjoy the beauty of these environments empowers them also to take care of their little part of the world; playing their part in their Blueprint for Yorkshire.

For those of you looking to get outdoors this year i recommend you go take a look at the Walks and Leisure resource and find an great walk close to you: http://www.yorkshirewater.com/walks-and-leisure.aspx

If you fancy taking the kids on more days out then you should consider Creepy Crawlies Adventure Playsite in York, Tropical world in Leeds or Eureka the National Children's Museum
