The 6 Biggest Painting Mistakes To Avoid! #CP

When we are making changes to our home, one of the best things that we can do is to add a lick of paint. But for this very simple practice comes a number of massive mistakes. So when you are looking to stylize your home more, or you are in the process of upgrading it, pay attention to the biggest painting mistakes.

Not Sanding Down the Surface Before You Start

When we look at the professionals, they end up sanding the surface down more than actually painting it. And this is a practice that can make a massive difference, not just to your time spent sanding, but also to the quality of the finished product. This not just applies to walls, this guide on Bloke Cave on painting breeze blocks talks about the importance of getting the surfaces of breeze blocks ready. It's a very simple thing, but it's about making sure that you prepare properly.

Painting in Low Light

If you are painting with very limited light sources, be prepared to go through it all again. The surface may seem fine at first, but when you uncover the windows or turn on the lights, you may notice a number of imperfections, such as thin patches. You need a lot of bright light because it helps you to see the entire canvas.

Rookie Mistakes

There are two big mistakes rookies make. First, leaving the lid off the tin, which is asking for trouble. Someone is very likely to step on the lid and bring paint all over the house. But, you need to put the lid back on after you use it because it will keep the paint clean, and will prevent any dried out bits of paint from forming in the lids. The other mistake is not locking out. Many dogs can knock over paintings, but all you need to do is lock them out!

Picking the Wrong Colour

You would be surprised how often this problem occurs! In fact, this is one of the biggest painting mistakes that you can make before you even pick up your brush! You go to a shop and pick out a nice colour from the strip, but when you put it on the wall it doesn't look like the colour you picked out. One of the best ways to navigate this issue is to get a painting sample first.

Brushing Too Much

The amateur painter may think that excessive brushwork is key to a good finish, but the goal is to provide a smooth finish. You need to load the brush and quickly cover an area with the paint, and then use one or two strokes to level it off. If you overbrush, it will cause brush marks.

Not Covering Everything

When it comes to painting in the living room, you need to cover up everything, rather than move everything out of the living room. But make sure that you put everything into the centre of the living room, and cover everything in sight with plastic sheets, and make sure it is taped at the bottom.
