My Garden Renovation Project

Now that the family has settled into the new home and we have unpacked many of the several thousand boxes, we can now turn our attention and efforts towards the back garden.

When we moved in the garden looked more like a jungle than anything else. It was untouched for two years so you can imagine how much of a state it had got into. Whilst we have cut away most of the over growth, we still have a lot planned for the garden.
The first project is titled "dog proofing" - our little lhasa apso is known to be an escape artist so we want to remove some of the hedges in the garden and replace them with fence panels. We will also need to put up chicken wire underneath the remaining hedges to stop the dog easily getting through.

Throughout the garden we have random stone boarders that we would like to remove and replace with turf. We want to have a long lawn free of hazards for the little man, family and friends.

An old shed was left with the house and whilst it is broken we plan on making some much needed repairs to it until we can afford to invest in a new one. As you can see it is in desperate need of some TLC; new felt and new wooden panels are the main problems we need to address.

We also had a fantastic wooden garden swing left behind and whilst it looks in fine working order, upon closer inspection it is clear to see that some of the panels have come away from the structure. All we need to do to get the swing back in working order is nail down the panels and give it a lick of paint.

The find folks over at begardenhappy.com had seen my home weekly home improvement updates and had a pair of solar lights sent over. I was sent over two Gardman Solar Ice Tower Lights - these retail for £24.99.

We don't yet have lights in the front or back garden so we wanted to get some decorative lights that could provide some extra lighting to make is easier to see.

Made from durable stainless steel and glass they stand at 40cm high with a 7cm diameter. The solar panels are hidden below the glass so are more attractive than most solar lights on the market.

The solar lights arrived well packed and in a very informational box, it had informations and featured all over the box. The lights are well protected in their packaging so you can rest safe in the knowledge that they won't be broken in transit.

The lights came with a small and easy to follow instruction booklet that made it easy to prepare the solar lights for use in the garden. It was simple, i had to remove the paper from the battery, then remove the spike from the inside of the metal tubing and then attach that spike to the bottom of the light.

This took me a couple of minutes to do and i had the lights in the garden within five minutes of having the box opened. These lights have come in handy over the past few days and i now will be heading out to get more in the coming months. Take a look at their home below and let me know what you think!
