Do you feel as though your work and home life are balanced? If you’re someone who has a demanding job, or someone who spends a lot of their time at work, this is a question that you should be asking yourself. It’s not always easy to give yourself an answer to be honest, but you need to work it out because if there is no balance, or if the balance isn’t right, then you need to make some changes.
Down below, we’re going to be looking at some questions to help you work out what the answer is for you, so if you would like to find out more, feel free to read on.
Do You Go To An Office?
Do you go to the office to work? Or, do you work from home? Remote working has become much more common since COVID-19 back in 2020, and it’s now showing any signs of slowing down. However, there are still a lot of people who work in the office, and what we’re asking you is how much time you spend here. How much time do you spend traveling to work, and how much time do you spend in the office? Travel time does count, because it’s time that you’re not at home doing what you want to do, spending time with your family etc.
Think about it, do you need to be in the office? If you feel that you need the professional look of the place, you can purchase a water cooler and filing cabinet for your home office if your commute is currently far away. You can speak to your boss about this if you want, and then you only have to ‘work’ your working hours.
Can You Leave Work At The Door?
Can you leave your job at the door? Are you someone who is able to switch off the phone and not reply to work emails when you’re at home? If you’re not, then this indicates a poor work home life balance because you’re still constantly in work mode. We understand that there are some jobs where this is needed because of the nature of the work, but if you’re not a doctor, vet, or other emergency responder, then there is no need for you to have your phone on you 24/7 for work at home.
Are You Thinking About Work 24/7?
Finally, are you thinking about work all of the time? If you are, then your work home life balance is not what it should be. You should not be spending all of your time thinking about work when you’re supposed to be having time off, relaxing, doing the things that you want to do etc.
This tends to happen when you have a high stress job, or when you love it. If it’s the latter, that’s great, but you can’t let it interrupt your family life as this is not going to work in the long run for the people around you.
