What are Gel Blaster SURGE blasters?

Gel Blaster SURGE blasters are devices that shoot water-based pellets known as ‘Gellets’. These Gellets burst upon impact and biodegrade, leaving no mess behind. They are perfect for shooting targets or even engaging in friendly battles, provided you're old enough to handle them responsibly and wear proper eye protection.

The Gel Blaster SURGE blasters feature two firing modes: individual (semi-automatic), which shoots one Gellet with each trigger pull, and rapid fire (automatic), capable of firing 8 Gellets per second when the trigger is held down.

Are Gel Blaster blasters safe?

Before diving into the review, it's crucial to establish a common understanding. When used responsibly, Gel Blaster SURGE blasters offer safe and enjoyable outdoor play. They encourage children to engage in outdoor activities without harming the environment.

Compared to BB or airsoft guns, Gel Blaster blasters are designed to be safer and less painful since the Gellets burst upon impact. However, it's essential to exercise caution, especially with younger children like mine. Strict supervision is necessary to prevent accidents, and it's advisable to discourage close-range shots or engaging others who do not wish to participate. The automatic firing mode should be avoided for younger users. We store our Gel Blaster SURGE blasters securely and only bring them out for playtime when everyone is present and supervised.

What are Gellets?

Gellets are small beads that expand when soaked in water. Similar to products like water beads or Orbeez, once fully hydrated, you can load them into the Gel Blaster SURGE blaster's hopper for shooting.

Inside the package, you'll find the Gel Blaster SURGE blaster with a plastic hopper filled with 800 lime green Gellets ready to go. Additionally, there's a packet containing 10,000 more dehydrated Gellets, ensuring prolonged fun. The package also includes a USB charger for recharging the blasters, safety goggles for eye protection during play, and a baffler/barrel that can reduce the Gellets' velocity from 170 feet per second to 90 feet per second.

Using Gel Blaster SURGE blasters safely

While older teenagers and adults might enjoy friendly battles (far less painful than paintballing!), for those of us who prefer to avoid bruises, shooting at targets is an incredibly enjoyable pastime.

Using the blasters is straightforward: grip them with one hand at the front and press the trigger with the other. My eight and nine-year-olds had no trouble aiming in the desired direction.

We created a fun setup, complete with a wall of Pokémon figures, taking turns to see who could knock off the most plastic targets.

The kids genuinely relish their time playing with the Gel Blaster SURGE blasters. The blasters' batteries have lasted through two full rounds of play without needing a recharge. We haven't encountered any issues with Gellets getting stuck, and the process of hydrating the gel pellets and refilling the hopper is simple and hassle-free. These blasters are user-friendly and, if used in appropriate outdoor spaces, are quite safe.
