If you're wondering where to begin, here are some excellent words of wisdom to give your kids:
Money doesn't buy happiness, but it does buy stability
Lots of parents tell children that money doesn't buy happiness. Usually, you say this to teach them that they can have all the money in the world and still be unhappy. Therefore, they should pursue dreams that make them happy. While this is true, you should also add that money does buy stability and security. Teach your kids the value of money, so they're smarter with their finances. This ensures they grow up and find a job that supports them and their family.
Patience is a virtue
So many people want to rush through life at 100 miles per hour. You see this with teenagers and young adults all the time - they're not patient. Everything they do is designed to get them where they want as quickly as possible. They take intensive driving lessons instead of spreading them out over a few weeks/months, they rush assignments to get them done quickly, and so on. Teach your kids that rushing things will rarely be advantageous. Instead, they should learn to be patient and apply themselves over a longer period. If they want to achieve things in life, they will have to slowly build themselves up over many years. If they try to skip all these steps and take a big leap from A to B, it probably won't go well for them.
Treat others how you wish to be treated
Lastly, teach your children the value of being kind to others. The best way to do this is to treat others how you wish to be treated. You will gain nothing in life from being mean or rude to others. It will lead to a breakdown in relationships and fewer opportunities. Imagine your child is rude to someone in secondary school, and that person grows up to be the head of a company. Then, your son/daughter goes for a job interview at that company, and they don't get it because the boss remembers how rude they were in school. It sounds crazy, but things like this happen all the time! Teach your kids to be kind as it will benefit them in the long run.
As you've been reading this article, you've probably had loads of ideas popping into your head. Truthfully, there are so many life lessons you could and should teach children. Ultimately, it's all about sharing your wisdom and ensuring your kids don't make the same mistakes you did!
