How To Start Your Own Football Team | #CP

You may not be the next Lionel Messi or David Beckham, but you might enjoy a bit of a kickaround. Or, you might well have done before life got in the way. Now, maybe you just watch it and imagine that it could be you playing. Kick around with the kids is probably the best that you are likely to get. Well, is it?

You could always join a local team or even start one. Anyone can start a football team. You will find that there will be a lot of work involved in running it, from leading training sessions through to planning fixtures. But it can be hugely rewarding. The comradery that you and your teammates will build will be immensely beneficial to you in your life.

You may not know where to start, but don't worry. You can learn as you go along, and Manchester United didn't get to where it is now in just one day.

Finding The Team

You may want to start off by asking people that you know if they will join your team. You could extend this on local facebook groups to try and drum up interest. If you have a few people wanting to join, you should hold tryouts. This will let you assess their abilities, and it may help you work out what position they may play in.

Picking A Name

This is a much more important task than you may expect. Your team will have this name forever, and it needs to say something about who you are. Pick something that means something to those involved.

Training

You will need to find somewhere that you can train. You may need to charge the team subs in order to pay for the hire of the field or sports hall. Check with your local council to see if any of the local playing fields or parks have facilities that you can use.

Picking Your Kit

You will need to get a team kit. You will want to look professional when you are out on the field and have a strong, defining look. Have a look at Macron teamwear for some examples. Many teams use sponsorship money to buy the kits. Approach some local businesses and offer to put their company branding on your outfit. You will need to know how much you will need for them towards your kits, so get a quotation from a supplier for your team wear, and for the printing or sublimation of the team logo and advertisements.

Finding Games

To be in with a chance of playing other teams, you will need to register your team with a local league. From here, you will be able to take part in rankings and tournaments. There will be registration fees involved, and you will have to adhere to the league's code of conduct. You will need to appoint a club secretary to deal with everything to do with the league, and the FA if you choose to join.
