Choosing
the appearance of your kids bedrooms can be really difficult, remember my post on preparing for a new baby?, in particular
picking the right bed for them. You may have a budding Harry Kane or a wannabe
Princess Kate but there are some great ideas out there that will make both you
and your kids happy.
Pick the
right bed
One of the
most important decisions to make, the bed is where they’ll spend a lot of their
time, so it not only needs to look good, it also needs to be comfy. There’s a
great selections of beds
from Bed Guru if you’re looking for something great for your kids.
Some kids
like to have that little bit of extra space so it may be worth looking at a
double bed for them. Some like their bed to have a design, you can get anything
from a football themed bed to a princess theme, turning their bed into a place
they want to spend time.
Choose a
good design
Design is more important to kids than anything else. They don’t want boring; they want it to look cool so they can show off to their friends. Whether you have a son or daughter, the best thing that you can do is ask them what they would like for their room. If they're old enough, they'll tell you whether they want punk rock posters, ballerina artwork or football art as part of their bedroom design. Children are imaginative and they are little individuals with their own personalities, and they deserve a say in how their sleep space looks and feels. A bedroom needs to be designed well, and when you get your child involved in that design process, you will be able to hear their imagination come out of them in excited chatter! They'll tell you all about the palette they want and you can see it all through their eyes. It's nice to have an Insta-worthy palette for the bedroom in beige and white, but it's a little overdone these days. Don't choose the boring option: choose the one that makes your child's eyes light up and their hearts sing when they walk into their bedroom! your children will be able to tell you what they want down to the shape of the carpet in the bedroom if you give them the chance and the creative rein to do what they'd like!
Some like to keep things neutral, so try and find colors like blue, grey or pink that look good but don’t stand out too much. You can also get themed wallpaper, again to stick to the football or princess theme (giving you two generic examples).
Make the
most of small spaces
You may not
be blessed with loads of room, so you need to make the most of the space that
you have available to you.
It’s worth
looking into cabin beds as they’re awesome for the bed itself but also the
amount of storage space you get as part of it. They give your kid somewhere to
store their clutter and clothes – keeping their room neat and tidy.
It’s
definitely worth looking at wardrobes with multiple storage functions inside
them, another great way to keep space as open as possible. Your kids need room
to play so it’s important you think about the space you have to play with.
I hope
these suggestions go some way to helping you to get your kids bedrooms right,
there’s good odds you’ll only get once chance at it! If you have any other
suggestions that you think I may have missed, then feel free to post them as
I’d love to hear all your ideas!
