5 Foods For Children with Intolerances | #CP

For children, food intolerances can be confusing and overwhelming as certain foods are suddenly barred from them. However, by choosing the correct food alternatives, you will be able to create fun replacements for your child and allow them to have the foods that they enjoy.

1. Chickpeas
Soy is used in many common household products such as breadcrumbs and dairy replacements. Therefore, soy allergies can be particularly difficult to handle if your family is vegetarian or if your child is also lactose intolerant. If your child has a soy allergy, soy products can be replaced easily with chickpeas and chickpea flour as this gives a similar flavour and texture to soy when used in recipes. Recipes that use chickpeas rather than soy include many foods often found in foreign dishes such as tofu, miso and soy sauce.

2. Camel Milk
If your child is lactose intolerant, there is a wide range of alternative milk options such as coconut, soy, almond and hazelnut. However, camel milk could also provide a healthy and nutritious alternative to milk for lactose intolerant children. Camel milk contains the same amount of calcium as milk, and also has other health benefits such as being high in protein and vitamin C. To buy Camel Milk UK, Camilk produce their milk in a number of countries such as Australia, UAE, USA and Morocco, but export their milk in a range of options to the UK.

3. Free-From Options
Rather than replacements, supermarkets now commonly have an extensive free-from aisle where you can pick up gluten-free and lactose-free options of your child’s favourite meals. These options are an excellent way to allow your child to have the foods that they enjoy without falling ill, and free-from aisles can contain everything from gluten-free pasta to chocolate buttons.

4. Seed or Nut Butters
If your child is lactose-intolerant, with over 65% of adults having a reduced ability to digest lactose, then using seed and nut butters over products that contain dairy is a good option for use on sandwiches and even within cakes. These nut butters have the same consistency as butter than contains dairy, and will allow you to substitute dairy in a number of recipes, from sweet treats cooking ingredients.

5. Flaxseeds
Many children are allergic to seafood, or even simply dislike it, and using flaxseed oil can help to maintain your child’s omega 3 and protein levels. Additionally, if your child is allergic to eggs, flaxseeds are an excellent replacement if you often make cakes and other bakes.
