The Yorkshire Dad Tackles The Yorkshire Warrior Challenge

Me the Tough Mudder Event
So we are well and truly rolling into the New Year now and like many of you, i myself have set myself a couple of New Years resolutions. Whilst two are very personal to me, the other is a resolution that many of us will share, to get fit.

In recent years i haven't been as fit and healthy as i would like to be and this is reflected in my waistband expanding and me moving-up a couple of jean sizes #dadbod. Whilst in no way consider my self to be overweight, i want to get back to the days of feeling positive about my body and feeling that i am living a healthy lifestyle again. Being the parent to two boys ages one and three does make it difficult to find the time, money and effort into exercising and eating right.

To spur myself on i wanted to set myself an exciting new challenge, so i decided to sign-up to take part in this years Yorkshire Warrior Challenge. I want to challenge myself to not only get fit, but to raise some money for the MS Society. I can't think of a better reason to get fitter and healthy than to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. For those of you that don't already know, my dad has been been living with MS since i was 13 years old,I have seen  first hand how it affects people and families.

So for that reason want to raise as much money (Whilst having a little bit fun) so that the charity can continue to support the lives of people affected by Multiple Sclerosis and develop new life changing research and medicines. New research by BT MyDonate suggests that 3 in 10 Brits say that they would be more likely to adhere to New Year’s resolutions if they involved a charitable cause like mine.

So what is the Yorkshire Warrior challenge i hear you say and why did you sign-up?
Well it is 15km obstacle race across tough Yorkshire countryside, starting at Ripley Castle - which is a 10 minute drive from my house. It has hills, bogs, rivers crossings, lake crossings, slides, barbed wire, electric fence, crawling, climbing, log carrying, sand bag carrying and much, much more! The website says any participant will need strength, stamina, determination and maybe some trusty comrades to assist them on their quest to become a 2017 Warrior - sounds fantastic right?

For those of you that are wanting to support my noble efforts i have setup a fundraising page on BT MyDonate, a new fundraising site that  is one of the few platforms available to UK charities that doesn’t take commission or charge charities a monthly fee or registration fee. What basically means is that charities can receive an additional £3.60 per £50 donation with gift aid when using BT MyDonate.

Please visit my page and give what you can: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/harrogatewarriors

If you plan on raising money this year then i recommend donating via BT MyDonate as your platform of choice, not only do they give more money to charities should you raise fund via their platform, but you get other awesome features and advantages that other fund raising platforms don't: Key features of BT MyDonate:

  • Commission free
  • No set up fee
  • No monthly subscription fees
  • MyDonate automatically reclaims gift aid free of charge
  • Charities are paid weekly ensuring they receive funds as quickly as possible
  • Fundraisers can support up to six charities per fundraising page
  • Fundraising pages are social media shareable

To celebrate the fact people want to challenge themselves and raise money for charities up and down the country, BT MyDonate have launched their Donation Doubler competition: they want to help out five fundraisers by matching their funds up to the value of £1,000. All you have to do to be in with a chance of having your funds doubled is set up a BT MyDonate page and raise £100 by midnight on February 20 to be entered into the prize draw. An incredible charity to be supporting! Go You. There is a part of me that really wants to do a Tough Mudder but then I remember that I don't even like getting wet in the rain let alone sweaty and dirty at the same time! Well done for signing up.

I shall be following your updates online and cheering you on from the sidelines.
