I have gone up a jean size and now hoast a little pot-belly, thus launching 'operation eliminate the dad-bod' begins. Whilst having a baby in the house again was one of the major factors in not kicking on my running shoes i have to say that i actually fell out of love with running a little bit.
In my child free years and when Ted arrived i was actually enjoying running and going out at least two to three time a week. I am naturally a good runner and enjoyed many of a 10k's, half marathons and Tough Mudder events. It wasn't until i destroyed the ligaments in my ankle over 16 months ago playing football that i kind of knew that i didn't want to run again for a while.

As well as the injury having two kids under two kinda takes a hell of a lot of time, money and effort. The last thing i wanted to do after work for almost a year is go for a run, i wanted to spend as much time as possible with the terrible two. Now that Charlie is almost crawling and by body metabolism is slowing down it seem that now is the right time to get back into the 'swing of things'.
So today i headed out on my first run in months in all my running gear. As you can see from the image i covered three and a bit miles in around thirty minutes, for my first run i think this was fine, I just can;t help comparing my past runs to what i have done today. I was running 10k in 40 minutes and i seriously don't think i can/will get back to that time/pace any-time soon.
Not only did i nail my fist run of the year i also took the plunge and joined the Gym next door to work. Which means i am now going to commit to going twice a week to work out, either before work or at lunch.
So what are my goals?
Well personally i really want to drop back down a jean-size, as i have too many pairs of nice jeans that i don't want to throw away.
As previously mentioned i have done most challenges, however the 'big one' is a full marathon and whilst i don't think i will be attempting this any time soon it is always nice to have a long term goal in mind for those long hours in the gym and those tough miles on the road/track.
I am also going to really try to eat 'better' which shouldn't be hard as i eat well. For me it is just cutting out the treat on a night and i should see some of the weight come off after a couple of weeks should i keep up with the running.

Well thanks for reading and i am sure you will see my random ramblings on Twitter in the weeks to come.
FYI - i use the Nike+ running app so feel free to send me your invitations should you want to hook-up!
