Review: Freedom Award Winning British Lagers Gift Set

When it comes to buying gifts for a family member, friend or a loved one then you can rarely go wrong with a good tipple.

If like me you like a beer or a bottle of red every now and then, you will know a good brand and gift when you see one. Well Freedom Beer are an International award winning microbrewery that specialises in brewing English lagers and stout. Moonpig.com sells a brilliant Freedom larger gift set for just £20 and i was lucky enough to get my hands on one to try-out and review.

So why should you buy a Freedom gift set from MoonPig above any-other gift set then?

Well folks the Feedom Brewery is award winning with 25 awards won in the last four years alone, all of their Beers are certified by the Vegan Socitey as well. They have a unique fermenting, maturing and filtering process which all helps created a super tasting "hand made" craft beers. If you want to find out about their process and their history read all about it here: http://www.freedombrewery.com/

In terms of the packaging and protection you get with the product i honestly don't think they could have done more to protect the products as they are separated in a strong cardboard box and have those funny air bag pillows stopping the beers from moving around in transit.

In the gift set you receive five different largers and a Freedom branded pint glass.

The different beverages give the owner the chance to taste a good mix of flavours from Freedoms larger collection. I personally enjoyed having different beverages to try-out as you know variety is the spice of life. So invest in a pack for yourself or a friend and you will get one bottle following Lagers:
  • Award Winning Pioneer Hoppy English Lager 4.6%
  • Freedom Organic Dark Lager 4.7%
  • Freedom Organic Lager 4.8%
  • Freedom Four Lager 4%
  • Freedom Pilsner Lager 5%

So i guess the most important thing is the taste and you would be right. Well the first lager i tried was the 4.6% abv Pioneer. Labelled as the missing link between larger and cask the Pioneer beer is full of all British ingredients.

The beer is described as an English take on an American style Pilsner. Its blend of 3 malts produce a full-bodied beer with just a hint of sweetness, and combined with 3 of the finest English hops, creates a refreshing fruity bitterness on the palate.

Left to mature for a minimum of 4 weeks for balanced flavours, Pioneer is then dry-hopped, which maximises its punchy mix of spicy citrus notes and cedar tree aromas. A beer with English, Continental and American influences all in one.

The great things about the beer is that it provides a wealth of information about its taste and history on the bottle. I enjoyed the Pioneer super-chilled, at first "sniff" i could really smell the outdoors and the the first taste brought-through a fresh crisps bitter bite with a dry finish.

My favourite larger had to be the Freedom 4%. It has a fine toasted malt aroma, with sweet malt, spicy hops and light citrus fruit in the mouth, and a dry and hoppy finish.

By mainstream lager standards, it's a bitter beer but it is on the sweet side so it sits well for the non-bitter drinkers.

Freedom Four has an initial sweetness that slides into a hoppy bitter finish. Mid-weight body and great smoothness ensure it's easy-drinking, while lively natural carbonation refreshes through to a crisp finish.

All-in-all i loved trying out the lagers, i got the chance to taste a range of beers that i wouldn't usually buy in the pub. I can see the product appealing to those who like to kick-back after a long week to enjoy a fine beer and those who want to take that extra special set to a gathering or party.
