Yorkshire Family Days Out - Summer Adventure at Stockeld Park

You'll find Stockeld Park hidden between Wetherby and Harrogate. The historic Stockeld Park estate hosts adventures at various times throughout the year.
  • The Easter Adventure opens between 5th - 22nd April.
  • The Spring Adventure opens between 24th May - 1st June.
  • The Summer Adventure opens between 19th July and 1st September.
I was invited to attended an exclusive VIP pre-opening event for the Summer Adventure on Friday 18th July 2014 . They invited bloggers, celebrities, journalists, local businesses and other people of note.

I popped along with my family: my son, girlfriend, sister and nephew, and by the end of the day we were all overwhelmed by the experience. For those unfamiliar with Summer Adventure at Stockeld Park please watch this short YouTube Video:

We arrived at 3.p.m. (I understand that the usual opening times are significantly earlier) in the car traveling from Harrogate. We already knew the location of the park but i made a good effort to spot the signs in an attempt to be able to give an honest assessment of the directions given on the website. I have to say both the directions given on the website and the road signs are spot on, travelers from all over the UK should find it easily either coming past York or Leeds.

As we pulled into the car park (Which again was well sign-posted) we caught a glimpse the entrance and the adrenaline began to pump. With ample parking we easily pulled up into the marked out spaces, these were wide enough to comfortably set up the pram and remove the children from the car-seats without the tight boundaries usually found in supermarket car-parks.

We were well greeted by the staff who gave us our information packs and a good verbal tour of the park; pointing out the key areas of interest to us. Once we were in we were spotlit for choice and the adventure then truly began.

The sun was shining down on us making it a perfect day to tackle all of the activities on offer, which were: the outdoor roller rink, maze, go-karts, the climb and play in the Enchanted Forest, sculptures and themed adventure playground areas, the Jump and Slide inflatable zone, the electric scooter trail, the indoor play zone, games, crafts and creativity center.

As you can see we had a lot to get through in five hours. We started in the indoor-zone, it had an inflatables, a wooden playhouse and train, and a wide selection of retro arcade games and building blocks. We spent well over 30 minutes in the first zone with the lads. The 2yo and the 7mo were both able to play and have equal amounts of fun inside the inside-zone.

We then went onto the electric scooters, these were like adapted segways. The scooters were fantastic, we had a short introduction to the workings and we were on our way. The trail took us through the entire enchanted forest, giving us the chance to spot the some of the enchanted play-zones along the way. Parents with kids over four are able to take them along for the ride.

After the segways we headed over to the amazing maze. This took us around 45 minutes to get around, it was full of twists, turns, adventures, scares, laughter and excitement all of the way around. Some of the stand-out things to see i think was the Castle, the Globe and the Police Boxes.

After finding our way out of the maze we sat down down in the catering tent and picked up some of the finest Yorkshire food. On the day we had a BBQ and was able to sit out in the field on a bench surrounded by space-hoppers and like-mind people. After refueling we needed to get the kids worn-out again so we once again set out and found our way to the enchanted forest.

In the Enchanted Forest, the dream world collides with reality as acres of ancient woodland are filled with mysterious characters and unique interactive sculpture and new adventure playground areas. Stories seem to whisper through the trees and tales of magic and enchantment might just come true. Inspiring imagination in adults and children alike, it's simply one of the best things to do in Yorkshire.

It took us a good hour to get around each of the attraction in the forest, but we could have easily spent a good three hours if we took our time. The great thing about the walk was that there was something new to enjoy, look at our play with every few minutes, this kept the kids extremely entertained and well behaved. There were toilets and a shop half way around so you could stop for a rest should you need one.

After the forest we entered into the outside play zone which housed a superb playground with life-size cars, trucks and tractors. With slides, ropes and climbing frames, the park offered something for all ages. There was also an inflatable slide and pillow jumper surrounded by sand we all enjoyed - we then heading to the go-karts, these were pedal karts we were able to take the kids on as they were double seaters.

The gift shop was the last stop before we jumped back into the car. It was full of a wide range of gifts for both adults and children, as well as housing some fantastic sweets and unique craft gifts. If you had the time you could sit down with the kids and create their own gifts to take home!

After five hours of playing and laughing we headed home. Upon reflection i have to be honest and say that i wasn't expecting much, but after spending a good half a day in the park the experiences and fun we had were unrelieved by any other attraction in Yorkshire. The park had so much to offer for the family, it was well maintained, staffed and thought-through when planing the activities.

I will defiantly be heading back again to the summer adventure! If you have any questions about the days please comment below. I have published a wealth of images below so you can all get a good taste of the experience:
