OnlineGolf: Get Children into Golf

Myself and Ted were invited to a golfing event for children organised by OnlineGolf in Manchester. Unfortunately we were unable to attend due to an illness in the family

For those of you that know me, read my blog or follow me on Twitter, i love golf, i do my best to get a least one or two rounds in a month. Taking half a day out to play golf can be tricky when you have two little ones at home and you are working five days a week.

I really like the idea of getting the boys in to golf, not only because they can possibly join me in the future on the fairways, but because there are so many great health benefits to playing for those of all ages:
  • Exposure to the outdoors
  • Fosters relationships
  • Strengthens the bladder
  • Burns calories
  • Keeps your heart rate up
  • Good for your brain
  • Improves vision
  • Low-risk injury sport
  • Better sleep
  • Reduces stress
The kind folks over at OnlineGolf kindly sent on a goodie bag for the boys to enjoy, so i set to work on a recent sunny day and let them loose with the soft Golfphin golf balls were given in the goodie bag. Whilst i didn't have any age appropriate clubs i let them use a spare putter and pitching wedge to swing around and even though the clubs were clears too big for them, they still did really well to hit the balls and more importantly have fun!

After letting them run wild for a little bit, i tried to in-part some of my golfing wisdom on to Ted, in an attempt to show him how to chip the ball in to a small bucket:

I have been looking around at local clubs and i have found Golf Tots courses that run weekly lessons for children from 3+. Now that Ted is three i honestly think that now could be the perfect time to get him in to golf.

Thanks for reading and thanks to OnlineGolf for the opportunity.
