Quinny Longboard Stroller Review

This week i finally got the chance to try-out a Quinny longboardstroller, one of the most exciting products on the market right now and a skater-boys dreams.

Growing up as a boarder i could have only dreamed about such a product being invented. Quinny the well-known pushchair and stroller manufacture say they have designed the longboard stroller as the perfect solution for travelling long distances in a fun and eco-friendly way. Saying that it brings together the comfort of a traditional stroller and the excitement of longboarding and is on sale for €599.00. Quinny got the idea for the Longboard after it commissioned a study on urban parenting and found out that parents living in metropolitan areas travel around their city a lot less after they have children.

Packaging & Delivery

When you've invested a significant amount of money in a product you want you really do want to make sure that the packaging and delivery method is up to scratch. The last thing any parents needs is a damaged product and even worse an upset child.

Quinny deliver the stroller by courier, asking for a signature upon delivery which is always reassuring.  Delivery can usually take up to 2-5 weeks from the purchasing date depending on stock-levels.

The box the longboard stroller arrives in is strong and sturdy, the product arrives all in one piece and you only need to remove the protective-film and the cardboard to get moving.

You are sent a brilliant booklet that walks you through everything you would possibly need to know about the board. From opening the box and having it prepared i would say that it only took me ten minutes to get everything ready.

As you can see from the pictures i had a little helper throughout the preparation phase, honestly he was almost hysterical in his excitement over his brand new toy, as you will see in this next video...

Product & Safety

The longboard stroller comes is with an integrated breaking system that allows you to break/control your speed whilst on the move. In terms of other notable safety features that you control then you have a wrist-strap/leash that can be worn when your on the board and it is designed to keep the board from rolling away should you step off the board at any time. Should the worse happen then the board has an integrated a safety brake and the LBS will stop automatically.

The most important instructions are that your child has to be at least one year old, can weigh a maximum of 15kg and has to wear a helmet and protective gear at all times. Adults are also encouraged to wear protective gear as well.

The child has to be belted up and even has straps for their legs that should be used before you set off on your little adventures.

For those that are interested you can tweak the stroller as you see fit by adding your own parts and trust me when i say you can get some funky new grip-tape and wheels online these days.

Storage & Size

The board is long, however it can be easily folded to fit in the car and for storage. Here are the key size details:
  • Unfolded: 1355 (L) x 505 (W) x 1060 (H) mm
  • Folded: 1355 (L) x 505 (W) x 365 (H) mm
  • Weight: 11 KG
When it comes to folding and storing stroller it takes about 10 seconds to fold away. Don't believe me watch me do it...

On the Road

I would like to start by saying that i have never been more excited about a stroller in my entire life. I have taken the stroller out three times now and each time i fall more and more in love with the product the more i use it.

As the longboard is rather large it can be a bugger to steer when you are stationery. When you do get moving the board is agile and nimble and can be steered almost effortlessly, i found that you should always whenever possible stick to the straight paths and should you need to turn give yourself enough time to do so.

I always felt that i was in control every-time i was on on the board and even on the rougher ground the ride was smooth and comfortable. My son really enjoyed the speed and distance I covered on the board. My son had plenty of space within the buggy to move around freely and not feel restricted even though he was well secured. The break on the handle bar allowed be to control my speed effortlessly!

Going downhill was obviously easy and when i had to push the board along it wasn't difficult to do but it did require some effort. You don't want to over do-it when you have to use your legs to power the board forward as each movement causes your child to move and forward in a rocking like motion, the trick is to not over do it and take it slow and steady.

I wanted to show you how easy the product was to use and master, take a look at a short video of one of my journeys to the park...

Thoughts & Opinion

After spending hours out and about with the product i would definitely recommend it to any parent. I was never concerned at any time about my sons safety and what concerns i had were answered in the accompanying handbook, via their website or eradicated when i hit the road . You can clearly see that the product made from quality materials and i can tell you that the unit is solid and stable.

If you live near a big open space or a park and want to invest in a product that will entertain you and your kids for years to come then the Quinny Longboard stroller could be something you might want to look into buying- they have product testing days around the country should you feel the need to try before you buy.

I have to admit that i was little concerned by it's length, as i wanted to be able to store it under the stairs away from little dirty straying hands. As it happens i had no need to worry as it fits really well under my stairs - it is one thing i know that others might worry about as well. Let me reassure you that whilst it is a big piece of kit the Longboard stroller is easy to lift and can be stored upright in any cupboard, shed or garage.

I took my son out to the shops and to park several times, i would happily have taken it up in Harrogate town centre or on holiday with us next week.

Everyone i met loved the product and was asking about it, drivers stopped and stared at us and all my friends, colleagues and family are intrigued by the concept.  The product is not only a well designed pram/toy it is a statement to other families that you love having fun.
