Keeping Busy with the Kids as the Nights Start Drawing In #CP

Summer can be pretty full-on when the kids are off school. You get a little more peace and quiet once they've gone back to school, but they still need entertainment once autumn arrives. In fact, you can find it a little trickier to keep them happy once it starts to get colder and darker. They can play outside for so long, but you probably don't want them stuck inside and in front of screens every day either. Not to worry though, because there's still a lot you can do with them. There are plenty of fun activities that are entertaining for them and will still be enjoyable for you at the same time.

Plan for the Big Events

We're used to cold, dark days in the UK and, over time, we've come up with different ways to prevent it from being too miserable. Events like Halloween and Bonfire Night are lots of fun for the whole family. As well as being fun on the day, you can look at ways to build excitement as they approach. It can even be a great way to tie in your activities at home with their school work, as they'll no doubt be doing things centred around Harvest Festival and other autumn events.

Do Some Seasonal Crafts

Getting crafty is perfect for a rainy autumn day. You don't need to go outside, and it can keep creative children entertained for hours. It's also a good way to get outside though. There are some great things you can collect and forage for that can be used for crafts. Go looking for conkers, pine cones, pretty leaves, acorns, or trees that are perfect for bark rubbings. You'll be able to entertain the kids and it will save you from being cooped up inside with them all day.

Watch Some Sports

Children often enjoy playing sports more than they do watching them, but autumn could be the perfect time to encourage them in the joys of being a spectator. There's plenty going on in the autumn, from football and rugby to tennis and golf. And while you're teaching them how to watch, you can always check out the latest EPL betting info to make it just that little bit more fun for you. Watching sports could get them more interested in playing too, which is great if you're trying to get them more active and spending more time outdoors.

Get Outside

Don't let the rain and cold stop you from going outside. Whether you wait for a break in the downpour or you just all get your waterproofs on, you can still get out in the autumn. Try getting the kids involved in some outdoor chores and gardening projects before it starts to get colder. You could even have a picnic outside, go to the local park, or take a visit to your nearest National Trust property to explore the grounds.

It might be getting colder and darker, but don't let it stop you from having fun with the kids until winter arrives.
