With the buzzwords of the moment being ‘green’, ‘eco-friendly’, and ‘environmentally conscious’, there has never been a better time to purchase a hybrid car. If you are looking down the driveway only to see a clapped out old banger staring back at you, you might be eager to purchase a more reliable, safer and economical motor for your brood. An electric hybrid set of wheels could be just what you are looking for, but they are not for everyone. Take a look at whether you should buy a hybrid car or not.

Cost

The initial outlay for a hybrid vehicle can seem astronomical. Because they are relatively new and they are expensive to manufacture, these costs have been passed onto the consumer. However, what they cost to purchase can often be offset by more long term savings. You could end up with a vehicle that doesn’t need taxing, belongs to a low insurance group, and won’t cost you any money to refuel each month. This means that the car could pay for itself in a matter of months.

Practicalities

Many families are eager to get a reliable vehicle that is relatively economical and will get them from A to B. If you travel long distances and do a lot of motorway driving, a hybrid may not suit because of the amount of times you will have to stop and recharge. However, if you simply ferry the kids around at the weekends to ballet class and you do the daily school commute, a hybrid could be perfect. As a responsible parent, you want your family car to be safe. A hybrid vehicle has the latest technology from advanced braking systems to blind spot sensors. These added features can make your car just that little bit more robust should it be involved in a collision.

A hybrid is not for everyone. However, if you do fancy taking the more eco-friendly plunge, consider whether this sort of car will suit your family.
