We all cling onto some of these rituals in the hope that they can make some of the most difficult tasks and situations that little bit easier.
Now that Theodore is one i have had a think about the rituals we have implemented. We have always given Theodore his bunny and dummy before bed or nap time. He doesn't have his dummy and bunny in the day, so he knows that when we pass him these items its time to go night nights.
I also always ask Ted to turn on and off the light before he goes to bed. I believe that this has helped him calm down and get to sleep quicker and easier. He never one a good sleeper at first when he was a newborn so we created these rituals and they seem to have worked :)
In the morning when the monster wakes up we first give him his bottle of milk, then we bring him into our bed where we snuggle for ten minutes whilst reading one of his books. Once he is calm and relax we then feed him the usual feast before its time to get changed and washed ready for nursery or playtime with mummy and daddy.
A few weeks ago i asked the kind folks that follow me to pass on some of their parenting wisdom to new parents, here is what they said:
@TheYorkshireDad 5 things before bed: 1. Dinner 2 bath 3 teeth 4 book 5 toilet.

@TheYorkshireDad You're not spoiling a baby by being attentive, you're building their trust in you. Don't let anyone tell you differently.

@TheYorkshireDad Read up on 4th trimester, get a decent sling, don't worry about bad habits & routines, just do what works for you & baby.
