We decided to ditch the PJ's and my sick bay to stock up on the essentials; soup and bread. Morrisons is our usual store but we have heard so many people raving about Aldi that we had to go give it a try - I worked at Morrisons for 7 years from the age of 16 so changing my food shopping habits is a big deal.
Aldi in York is located on the same road as Wet & Wild. Easy to find with surfactant parking - rocking up to the store we quickly realised that we didn't have a pound for the trolley as our trolley token was left in our own car at the garage. With no cash machine in site we had to bit the bullet and approached the store manger for a pound donation.
The store manager was more than happy to raid Daves Till and handed over the pound after we had pledged allegiance to Aldi and the one pound short term loan it has bestowed onto us.
Walking around the store it was apparent that the products they sold were either British or quality brands we had never heard of before. Either way we were impressed by the products they had and their prices... They weren't exactly mouth dropping savings but enough to get a little excited about not spending a fortunate on the essentials.
Walking around the store searching for the products we needed we found some odd foods and found substitutes to the brands we usually purchase.
We manged to buy all thd usual goods expect for tuna. They didn't have a gray select of tune and we did questions the sources of the cans in stock and decided to give it a miss.
Even though we did miss our brand we did really enjoy buying and trying new ones. By the end of the trip we had our trolley full and after the nice checkout teen totted up our total spends it only came upto £50.66. This was amazing considering we purchased a wide vareity of food and essentials; washing powder, cleaning products, chickens, loo roll, fruit and veg, shampoo.
We would not have got as many products for the same price at Morrions. One of the notable differences in prices between the two has to be Aldis fruit and veg, just as good and half as cheap. I don't know how Morrions get away with charging the prices they do for fruit.
I honestly never though about shopping at Aldi before but now I would choose the store every time over the big4. I had become so stubborn and brand loyal that I was willing to pay for product that were over priced.
If you shop at Aldi I bet you could save money, I did!
One big critism of the store is that they had pallets out throughout the store. This made it hard to move around freely and you had to think about where and when you stopped in case you started a traffic jam. By the end of the shop we hated the people in front of us!
I guess they have to stock up on mass in the day to save money by not having staff come in on a night.
If there ever was an Aldi in Harrogate they would have my custom. Until that day Morrions my heart will always be with you!

We don't have a local Aldi. But there is a local (well within 9 miles, like all the supermarkets), and I find them very reasonable too. Especially like their Pannetones, which are very cheap!
