Watches are popular for
several different reasons. They’re stylish, more practical than other
jewellery, and can be fantastic investments, you might have seen my watch review of the Kolt Sandstone watch from Weird Ape. This helps to explain why the
watch marketplace is effectively an endless sea of different brands.
With so many watch brands available, there’s something for everyone in terms of budget and style – whether you want to go for opulence or match Bill Gates with his budget-friendly Casio Duro.
Yet which watch brands are the most popular? Below are the top five most popular watch brands of 2020.
1.
Hublot
Thanks to data analysis by Betway, which has analysed Google search trends for the
past five years, we have uncovered that whether it’s due to dreamers, the
curious, or those who are genuinely in the market for one, it makes sense that
luxury watch brands dominate search trends. Well, the most popular brand of the
lot right now is Hublot.
The popularity of the
luxury Swiss watchmaker isn’t exactly due to universal acclaim, however. Hublot does have its detractors. Yet despite the criticisms aimed at the brand by
watch enthusiasts, it still racks up a lot of sales and interest – and that’s
why it tops this particular list.
2. Rolex
When it comes to the most
famous luxury watch brands, there’s one that sits comfortably above the rest:
Rolex. It’s a brand that transcends beyond those who collect watches as a
hobby. Regular folks, the type that are happy with a watch as long as it’s the
right size and colour, are enticed by the allure of Rolex and the status of
wearing one of their timepieces.
3. Tudor
Tudor is a brand that falls
under the Rolex umbrella, so it’s easy to understand the type of first-class
quality their watches possess. Yet Tudor doesn’t just try and imitate its
bigger brother with their creations. The brand is considered more adventurous
with its designs, where it incorporates a more avant-garde approach compared to
Rolex.
They may not appreciate in
value quite as much as Rolex watches, but they still deliver the same excellent
quality and style.
4. Omega
If Rolex is the king of the
luxury watchmakers, Omega is arguably the biggest alternative with a strong,
dedicated fan base – hence its lofty place on this list. The brand was created
in the late 19th century, so Omega had a several decade head-start over its
Rolex rival.
One of the more enticing
aspects of Omega is its price point. You can pick up second-hand Omega watches
for less than four figures if you shop around. Plus Omega has been James Bond’s watch choice since the 1990s, which is always a nice perk!
5. IWC
It might not have the
history and prevalence of the aforementioned brands, but IWC has been a
favourite with the mainstream watch collector scene since the 1990s. This is
due to their creations which demonstrate impeccable class, refinement, and good
taste. Plus due to typically being produced in smaller numbers than the bigger
names on the scene, IWC watches often make great investments due to their level
of appreciation.
