An expert locksmith’s tips for keeping your home and family secure #CP

Burglaries unfortunately remain a fact of life for some homeowners. I have been through it twice now and it never gets easier. I have teamed-up with a South Yorkshire locksmith company to help share some prevention tips.

Prevention is the best way to keep thieves at bay, as homes with no security measures in place are five times more likely to be burgled. He's noticed the techniques used by thieves to gain access to properties are becoming more sophisticated. Lock picking is still popular, but other methods such as lock snapping and bumping are also becoming more common.

Here are just some of the things you need to think about if you need to improve your home security.

Remove temptation

Most thieves are opportunists. They’ll see a chance to enter your home and take it, which is why it’s a good idea to deal with problems with your door and window locks as soon as you notice them.

Have you got a patio door that doesn’t quite close? Or a window you’re no longer able to lock?

We’re all guilty of leaving these little jobs until it’s too late. He's been on countless callouts as an emergency Doncaster locksmith, where homeowners have told me they just hadn’t got round to dealing with the problem, only to find their property had been broken into.

Take action sooner rather than later

One of the best pieces of advice I can offer to anyone is to not skimp on quality when it comes to choosing your locks. As with anything else on the market, there are various different locks available, and some are more reliable than others. Always look for a product that meets British Standards, as this way, you can be guaranteed the lock has been tested to the highest possible degree.

Your front door is not only your main point of entry to your home, but also a burglar’s. If you’re going to upgrade any of your locks, I’d recommend you start here.

I would suggest you invest in Ultion locks, as they’ve been specifically designed to prevent lock bumping and snapping. As soon as an attack is detected, they’ll go into lockdown mode, making it virtually impossible to enter your home.

If you want to go one step further, then high-security door handles are also well worth a look. They can’t be snapped off or tampered with easily and will give another line of defence.

Don’t forget your windows!

Now your doors are secure, the next step is to upgrade your window locks. Again, I’d strongly advise looking for locks that meet British Standards.

If you’ve got sash windows, then sash jammers are definitely worth installing. They can be fitted to different sized windows and will create resistance whenever they detect forced entry.

Finding a reliable locksmith in Yorkshire

Of course, all of these home security prevention methods are only going to be effective if they’ve been fitted properly. And that’s where the services of a professional locksmith, such as SF Locksmith come in!

Always look for a local locksmith with a solid reputation, and who’s willing to guarantee their work. This shows they are confident in the quality of their workmanship and that the new locks and other measures you’ve chosen will stand the test of time.

I guarantee all worked carried out for two years, and all the lock I fit conform to British Standards. To find out more about the services I offer, give me a call on 01302 378 067.
