Now that the colder weather has kicked-in i thought
it would be a good time to research and share with you money saving energy
saving tips. Whilst you will be spending more money your heating bill i hope
that these tips can help you reduce your bill:
As a household with two young boys we seem to be
washing and drying more and more clothes every month. One way i have read to
reduce your bills through washing is to wash your clothes at 30-40 °C. The
reason you save money doing this is because 90% of a washing machine's energy
expenditure is spent on heating the water.
You might so this already but instead of using the
dryer why not hang up your laundry. If you hang dry your clothes you will not
only save money not tumble drying your clothes, but you will not have to iron
some of your laundry as the creases will naturally vanish.
Switching to LED Lights
We have now replaced all our halogen spotlight
bublbs with LED ones and whilst they are costly they last long and cost less to
run on a daily basis. Which means you are more than likely to earn the money
you spend on LED lights back through your reduced bill.
The Energy Saving Trust say that if the average household replaced
all of their remaining old-fashioned bulbs with CFLs, and all of their halogens
with LEDs, it would cost about £100 and save about £35 a year on bills!
Windows and Doors
One thing you can do to keep heat in the house to
to cover your windows and door with good quality curtain and or blinds, as this
should help keep the heat from escaping. We have covered our Solstro windows in our bedrooms and bathroom with new extra thick ready made blinds in
an attempt lock the heat in.
In the Kitchen
Little changes in the kitchen can go a big way to
saving a good amount of money:
- Using a bowl to wash up rather than a running tap can save you up
to £30 a year
- You could save £7 pound a year by only filing the kettle with the
amount of water that you need to make your drinks
Heating and Hot Water
Did you know that half the money spend on your
annual bills goes towards providing heating and hot water for your home. If you
consider adding a a room thermostat, a programmer and thermostatic radiator
valves you could save you more than £75.
An amazing stat is that if you turn your thermostat
down by just one degree you can save £80+ a year.
Having your boiler serviced each year will also
contribute to our home being heated correctly.
I hope you have found these quick tips useful, if
you have anymore please do let me know and i would be more than happy to add
them to the page.
