5 Reasons Why Loft Conversions Make Sense for Young Families

For years and years, young couples always worked and saved and finally bought that ‘starter home’ where they could finally think about starting a family. It was every young couple’s dream and is the reason why so many small cottages around the country were sold almost as quickly as they were listed. However, as those young couples began having children, it was soon realised that more space was needed and so many of them began seeking bigger homes after putting theirs on the market for sale. This is no longer a trend for a number of reasons and increasing numbers of young families are looking towards loft conversions instead.

Here are five reasons why loft conversions make sense.

1. Extra Living Space

Loft conversions add living space sometimes the entire length and width of the home, depending on the roofing structure. This can be converted into a single great room or separate rooms for use as bedrooms, home offices and craft rooms, but the object is to add space to a home where you already live.

2. Cost of Adding Space vs Moving Home

When you find a builder on sites like plentific.com, not only can you be assured that all work will be guaranteed to be performed to your requirements but you can add space to your current home without going over your head in higher mortgages. The cost of adding space with a loft conversion is nowhere near as expensive as moving house to a larger property, so many young families take that Plentific Guarantee and hire a tradesman to help them convert space they already have.

3. Added Value to Property

Upon completion of the loft your home gains in value. You may not be looking to sell now with real estate prices soaring in many parts of the country, but at some point you may want to sell. That extra living space serves you well now as your family grows and can be seen as an investment in your future because it also raises the value of your home.

4. Convenience

Few young families have the financial wherewithal to have a stay-at-home mum or dad. Both parents are typically out in the workforce so there is little time to think about packing up home to move. Most of the time homes are within easy commute to jobs so convenience is a factor in converting a loft as opposed to moving to a new location. Even if price weren’t a factor, convenience very well could be.

5. Stability within a Community

Finally, 21st Century living has become ‘transient’ in nature. Altogether too often families are uprooted to move to new locations. Sometimes finances are the ultimate cause and other times young families want bigger homes to accommodate new additions to the family as children are born. Staying in the same community adds stability for children who will grow up with friends they will know ‘all their lives.’ Parents are often more secure in the knowledge that neighbours are all friends and so will typically all look out for each other. Amongst social Millennials, this is a huge factor.

In these early months following Brexit, no one is sure what the financial future of the UK will be and so many young families are simply looking to add space to the homes they already inhabit. With prices soaring, staying put is to many, the best solution all the way around.
