- The average length of a marriage in the UK is 11.7 years
- People in their second marriage are less likely to get divorced
- The more expensive the wedding the more likely they are to get divorced
Whilst i haven't been divorced i have seen at first-hand marriages amongst family and friends fall apart. It must never be easy, especially when emotions are high, homes, money and kids are all involved. Being honest i don't know much about it, i hope i never will, but it is always good to be educated right?
I didn't know that in England and Wales, there are still only five ways to get a divorce and three of those involve living separately for at least two years. If you want to get divorced quickly, you have to do it on the basis of adultery or unreasonable behaviour - which sounds very awkward to me .
I see and read so much about divorce, especially in the national media and you see the gritty details of high profile divorces in trashy celebrity magazines. It is in these stories where i guess people pick-up horror stories around divorce and begin to form a perception of divorces being brutal and messy. With divorces becoming more common in the past twenty years it is fair to assume that there is a good amount of advice and systems in place to help any party have a safe and amicable break-up.
The Law House have dived in to the numbers to bring to us some interesting and shocking statistics around marriage:
