Hop-along-daddy: a tale of damaged ligaments

I have now been hoping around my home for two weeks with damaged ligaments. I damaged the ligaments in my ankle playing football, i rolled my ankle whilst attempting to pass the ball back to one of my team mates. I wish i could say it was a heroic injury but that would be me telling a lie.

My foot ballooned quickly, bruising start to rise and i could no longer walk. I honestly thought i had broken or at least fractured something. Folks, i damaged it bad, one x-ray and after four hours in A&E the doctors said i had severely damaged the ligaments in my ankle and i would need to rest up until it got better.

An ankle sprain link mine is estimated to take between 3-6 weeks to heal. I was given crutches and was told to take it easy!? How can a parent to a 10 month old boy take it easy?

Luckily for me i happened to have injured myself on the Ryder Cup weekend! On the other hand we had to cancel a weekend away in Birmingham :( which i have now rearranged!

The micro-tears and the swelling have made my foot painful, it has been a pain in the arse using crutches and i hope that i recover soon. It is almost impossible to get anything done standing on one leg. I haven't been much help around the house and getting up for the nightly feed has been a no no, since i cant lift the little one and walk at the same time.

I take my hat off to those dealing with life changing disabilities, i have injured my leg and have complained like a little girl throughout. Not being able to walk on my ankle fully has meant that my crutches have followed me around everywhere. It is almost impossible to be quiet on a night when using crutches, the amount of times i have nearly woken my son up is nerve-racking.

I look forward to getting back to full health so i can be a good dad, partner and most importantly a golfer again!
