Family Night Out: Fright Night at Stockeld Park

A perfect introduction to fright night for families with young! With a good balance of family fun and good old scares :)

Last night I attended Stockeld Park's Halloween Fright Night, you may remember me mentioning this a couple of weeks ago in this blog post here, where you can find travel information and more information on the Park and Fright Night.

We pulled into the well-light car-park with the trees showered in ominous red and green lights. As soon a we opened the car doors we heard "the music", a rather loud and spooky sounding type of music that helped build-up the anticipation greatly. Walking up to the box office they had a rather odd, but nice lady walking around scaring folk. As you can see from the above picture she was nice enough to pause for a quick snap!

Inside Fright Night you had three zones; the Trail was time attraction in which you had to be given an allocated time slot and the other two, the Maze and the Tent you could stroll in at you own leisure.

Let me take you through a each zone to give you a better idea of what you can expect from the family fright night!

The Trail

A walk in the Woods with a twist! The Trail was an thrilling walk through the enchanted forest, littered with Witches, warnings and surprises. You set off on the trail in small groups following the tour leader over bridges and pathways stopping only to heed the sites and characters along the way.

The attractions takes around 40 minutes to complete, involves a lot of walking and character interaction. It is dark in parts but over all it is a perfect adventure for children over the age of 8+. In our group we had families from Birmingham and Middlesbrough.

I don't want to give what happens away but my personal favourite was the Witches Hat - we have kids running out of the house screaming!

The Maze

For me the Maze was the best attraction as it was full of surprises. Throughout the journey all types of creatures pop up out of the darkness, there really is a scare around every few corners. The Maze can take some time to get through so make sure you wear some sensible shoes and warm clothing. My favourite "surprise" was the clown who chased us around with a chainsaw, truly shocking!

I have to admit that we got lost and had to start over again!

The Marque

The Marque was the most frightening attraction of the night. This one was not for the faint hearted as you had to enter alone! A journey through the darkness with all sorts of creatures jumping out at you. It was the perfect start to our night and you would have to have nerves of steel to get through the attraction without jumping once.

A great family night out!

The Fright Night made for a perfect family night-out, the facilities at Stockled Park are always top notch with a wide range of food, drinks, gifts and indoor activities.

Not only can you enjoy the spooky attractions you can also jump on the ice-skating rink to calm the nerves!
