... The Yorkshire Dad Blog ...: Why Every New Dad Needs To Double His Wardrobe

I don't follow fashion, I wear what I want and I would like to think that I am not influenced by any external forces when it comes to my own individual style.

Now that I am a father, fashion and clothes have become significantly more important to me. Not because I what a look like one of those Hollywood douches on MTV but because when I became a father I needed to be and I will tell you why....

No time

As soon as I wake up my life is devoted to looking after my little boy. I have no time or desire to decide on what I want to wear for the next few days. I want to wake up and pick clothes up from the wardrobe and for it to look acceptable. You do not need Gok-Wan styling, you just need the basic items.

No money

I can only speak from experience here but when the news of a newborn arrives that means the bank accounts are getting rinsed. Savings and credit cards are used to invest in the much needed essentials and yes of course some desirables like a camera baby monitor or a foot spar. Money can be tight when you have a baby, nursery fees only pile on the pressure so when you do have the chance to invest in some news clothes I would highly recommend you doing so!

Sick, poo and wee

Three things all new parents become accustom to after a few weeks of parenthood. The fact that you will have some kind of fluid on your person from your newborn everyday should inspire you into stocking up on those extra jeans, T-shirts and jumpers. You will find that your child will ruin your clothes at the worst time to it is always wise to have a back-up set of clothes either in the car or in your wardrobe!

Washing clothes

Unless you have been in the military or have a love of washing then I guess you will have the same view as me when it comes to washing: "it will get done whenever". Well now that you have less time to focus on cleaning the house, the washing will get put through less regularly. Resulting in less clothes for you! Fewer clean clothes make it difficult to not dress like a total scruff. You need more clothes so you can effortlessly roll out of bed and jump in any old kit and still look like a god/goddess.

Pregnant Partner

I my household my girlfriend does all the washing as i can't be trusted. So when your partner is pregnant or has given birth it is more than likely that you will be responsible for sorting the washing. Not ideal if you are lacking the experience and expertise.
