That being said, newborns should still be given sensible toys to play with because they'll start learning things, whether it's through the sense of touch, smell, sound etc, from day one.
Toys for newborns don't have to be complex and complicated, in fact, they can be the simplest of toys in the shop and the newborn babies will get so much out of them. I know first hand from seeing my baby nephew with his toys when my sister brought him home from the hospital at just a day old.
Here are some suggestions for toys for newborn babies:
- A baby rattle. Newborn babies can get used to different sounds
- Musical mobile and play mat. Newborn babies love to learn new sounds and with a musical mobile playing over the play mat, babies can also become mesmerised by the twirling around of the mobile and the toys attached to it
- A crinkle caterpillar. Babies love to discover new textures and feels, along with the sound they make
- Touch and feel cubes with plenty of patterns. Babies get used to new textures, colours and pictures
- A mirror. A simple toy, but babies love to see their reflection especially for the first time. You can see their little minds trying to work everything out
Every time you go into the toy shop you will find something insane, something that you will want to buy. The trick i have been led to believe is convincing your wife that your son or daughter will want it for xmas.
I am a huge Lego geek and will be investing a large proportion of my future income into lego for my son and myself. Maybe i should invest in Lego shares.
