Introducing Furby Connect | Toy Tribe

Stop the Press... the Furby is back and we have got our hands on one of the new Hasbro Furby Connect to put it through it's paces.

I remember playing with the old Furby's for hours with my brother and sisters, with the entire family all having one in the house, as you can imagine it was both fun and annoying. I have to admit to you that i rarely get overly excited about a toy review but this one is different, it a toy that touched many of all in our infancy. I want to Ted to feel the same sense of nostalgia towards this new Furby in twenty years time as i do today. So it is safe to say i have very high expectations for the new generation of Furbys, considering today's Technology, it is interesting to see what they have changed how it works and if anything what remotely the same as the original.

The Furby Connect retails between £80-£100 and it can be found at any reputable toy retailer. One thing to note is that the Furby requires 4 AA batteries, we didn't have any knocking around so we had to run to the shopping to pick some-up, all with a hyper toddler waiting on tenterhooks.

Setting-up the Furby was relativity straight forward as all we had to do to get him working was to take the screws-off the toy and release it from the box, chucking in the batteries.

At first touch the Furby was deliciously soft and i couldn't help but want to stroke him. He didn't feel as heavy as the originals, he felt robust, cuddly and even less scary haha.

So if you go out and spend £100 on a Furby you expect to get a toy that is going to keep your little one entertained. The biggest development has to be the Bluetooth connectivity, which means you can connect the Furby up to a laptop, mobile or I-pad.

By hooking up the Furby to your devices Furby will provide you with an internal year-round clock. Which means Furby now knows if it’s Christmas Day, Easter or Valentine’s Day - how cool!

By connecting the Furby with the Furby Connect World app, it opens up an entire new universe where you can feed him, play games or take Furby to the toilet. We really liked the new dimension the app brings to the entire Fury experience and whilst our boys are still young the app was easy for them to use and more importantly understand.

I have to say taking Furby for a dump had us in stitches for toddlers and immature adults. We fed the furblings we hatched and we unlocked some music and videos. The Connect app keeps Furby updated and brings in new entertainment from across the internet every week that Furby learns to interact with!

Without the app the Furby is still as much fun as i remembered, you can play with Furby straight out of the box and not even connect it to the app if you wish.

There are even more ways to interact with Furby this time around, by petting, tickling or shaking Furby you get great reactions. The Furby's mood changes, from happy to sad, to scared, to excited when played with. One of the coolest new features i think is the fact that the Furby will show off more than 150 expressive animations via the LCD eyes, ears and light-up antenna, making some brilliant sounds!

I thought that Charlie might not like it but at first but he actually loved it, for him it was all about playing the antenna. For Ted is was all about pulling his tail and making him fart and spinning around with him.

One other feature that will appeal to parents and grandparents around the world is the introduction of the sleep mask, which means Furby now sleeps through the night! No longer do parents need to remove the batteries on a night or lock it away at the bottom of a towel cupboard.

Honestly i would recommend the Furby to anyone with a child over six years old. The app is so important to the longevity of the appeal of the new Furby that any child needs to love playing on their devices. There are in-app purchased so should you not want you child to wait to unlock certain phrases, emotions and videos then you can.

Check-out a short clip of us playing with the Furby over the weekend:
