Alternate Adventure Activities All The Family Can Enjoy

Week after week you probably see me tweeting about another one of our family adventures. From exploring the river-bed of the River Nidd in Knaresborough through to visiting our local farms, it seems like we are always on the move.

Whilst my boys are one and two we still find ourselves tackling and exploring new adventures every week, this weekend we headed to Eureka, the kids science museum based in Halifax, which i reviewed last year.

Heading out every weekend to a top attraction costs money, so in the coming weeks i have devised three alternative adventure activities:

Garden Sports Day

The one thing we all look for in any activity is that it tires the little ones out, which is great for us as we then hope they get an early night. One great way of tiring your little monsters out is by having a sports day in your garden or on a local field. Even in the colder month you can find something for your little ones to do, i have created a quick list of sports you can enjoy:
  • Egg and spoon race
  • 100m dash
  • 3 legged race
  • Wheel barrow race
  • Welly wanging
  • Obstacle course
  • Tug of war
  • Skipping Hopping
  • Long jump
If you want a couple of alternative race ideas then think about having scooter or pogo races around the garden, two or three laps should be enough - check-out Skate Hut if you need skateboards, skates, long-boards or pogo-sticks

Water-Play

If you are lucky enough to live close to a lake, stream or river then i recommend you utilise it. Heading down to the river costs nothing, taking a picnic with you is another good way to kill time and keep your little ones motivated. The family recently visited the Yorkshire Water run Fewston Reservoir where we played and walked around, my review it is well work a read, click here.

If you want to set out a morning or afternoons adventure, then i recommend trying some of the following besides the river:
  • Skimming stones
  • Dam building
  • Racing paper boats
  • What sinks and what floats
  • Paddling
  • Build a rope swing
  • Spot the wildlife
Our boys love the water and they have hour's worth of fun just splashing around. Should you venture to the riverside then please be safe by the water and watch you kids at all times

Treasure Hunt & Den Building

Another great way to spend some time with the family is by planning a treasure hunt, either in the garden. If you are feeling a bit more active try-out geocaching, what is Geocaching? This awesome video explains:

Also consider building a den in the garden or at the park, i found this brilliant guide on how to build a simple den out of branches:

I hope you have found this post useful, if not i hope that it has inspired you to go on your own little adventure. It doesn't matter what you do, where you go as long as you laugh, live and love with your little ones!
