Three ways to match up to your son this summer

Now that it’s the summer holidays, it means that walks with the dog, sandcastles on the beach, and far too many ice creams are just around the corner. For us fathers out there hoping to show a bit of style on our hols though, this can sometimes present a challenge, i know i struggle.

This year I’m determined to make an effort with fashion, while getting the boys involved at the same time. So, if you’re looking for a post on how to match father and son outfits, you’ve come to the right place. Here are my top three selections…

1. Perfect for a day trip If you’re staying in this country, you’ll want a daywear outfit that’s easy to wear for a variety of day trips. For those of you jetting off on holiday, you still need something light for all of those tours and excursions you’ll be going on. I’ve recently purchased a selection of polo shirts (Currently in transit) that should do the trick; they’re a thinner material but still good quality, and you can get them in a wide selection of colours, styles and patterns, so they can pretty much suit any dad out there.

For your little ones, you’ll find that the equivalent is in no short supply. The textured polo shirt here should be ideal for keeping the heat off your son, while he toddles beside you as a mini-me. You only need to pair them with some jeans (for the UK) or canvas shorts with flip flops (for those travelling abroad), and that’s your main daywear look complete.

2. Have a special occasion? Don’t panic The summer is of course prime wedding season, and that means a nightmare for a lot of dads. Where on earth are you supposed to find occasion wear for the practical father? You’ll still need to run around after the little ones and stop them from getting into mischief by the buffet table. Thankfully, there are plenty of men’s suits available through the click of a button, so you don’t even need to worry about going out shopping if you can’t find the time.

From deep blue to charcoal grey and even full three-piece suits, you’ll be able to find just the right thing to go with the wedding theme. For your son, you won’t have any difficulty in finding him some miniature tailoring of his own. This waistcoat and trouser combination with a bow tie should do the trick; it’s lightweight too, so you don’t have to worry about your boy getting too hot either.

3. Going for a swim? Whether hanging around by the pool in your resort, or taking a trip to the local swimming baths while the British heat wave subsides, you’ll still need to make sure you pack some swimwear.

If you’ve got a pair of funky swimming shorts or superhero t-shirts, then the good news is that your sons don’t have to miss out – just match up with one of these superhero beach ponchos.
