Roundhay Primary Schools’ Run for Fun

Run for Fun is back for its 11th year next weekend as school children from across Roundhay team up. On Saturday 25th June, between 9:45am and 11:30am, pupils from ten different primary schools - and their parents - will take part around the park.

This wonderful community event was established back in 2005 by a group of motivated volunteers who got together to drive this day. It was created as a way to encourage children to have fun together, be more active and increase their interest in sport and has grown to a point where more than 1,000 children and family members are expected to take part.

Runners can choose between running one to five kilometres and this is often structured progression during primary school years for the children. All juniors who complete the run get a medal and serious runners can rely on the race clock for a specific time.

Veronica Shackleton is the chair of the organising committee and sees it as a great family event that is all about seeing children participating. She said: “It is important for us as parents to inspire our children to enjoy outdoor activities, and this is the perfect way for children as young as 4 to start to compete in a friendly environment. We have had such a great response from schools this year. Excitement about the event is building up already.”

All of the funds raised by this event are donated to the local schools and this year it is sponsored by Blacks Solicitors, Leeds Building Society, Sky and Preston Baker Estate & Letting Agents.
